Scoliosis Stories

ABBEY'S STORY
Submitted November 28, 2005

Hi! I'm about to tell you my Scoliosis story. This summer, my grandma noticed a hump in my left shoulderblade. My mom called the ortopaedic clinic and scheduled an appointment for me.

That August, I went to the orthopaedic clinic and got X-rays. The lady in the X-ray room asked me if i knew if i had Scoliosis and i told her no. Then she came out of the X-ray room and told my mom I had Scoliosis. Then she took us to the room where the doctor examines you. he asked me to bend over and touch my toes. You could see my left shoulderblade sticking out. He reccomended me to see a pediactric specialist.

Later that September we went and saw Dr. Andrew King. Dr. King told us we needed a brace. The next Tuesday we went and saw Ronn Bell (my mom and dad's friend) at the prosthetics and orthotics place. He casted me for the Boston Brace. He told us the brace would be ready in a few weeks. On a Friday in October, we came to pick up my brace. He adjusted it and fixed it so I could wear it that night. That night was pretty tough. Now we are going to the Shriner's Hospital in Shreveport to get a second opinion so I don't have to get surgery. Now you know my scoliosis story.
