In December of 2005 I was walking down the halls and bumped into my nurse. She took a quick look at me and said,"Your shoulders are different heights." I laughed thinking what does she mean.. She asked me to come to the clinic, so I followed her. Once we got there she told me to bend down like I was touching my toes. Once I did that she sounded surprised and said."Whoa that's the worst curve I have seen!" I had no clue what she was talking about so I just stood there. She started to explain to me that she is pretty sure I have scoliosis, a curve of the spine. At first I didn't take it seriously. Then I saw the serious look she was giving me. She wrote a note to my parents to take me to a doctor immediately.. Turns out she was right, I had a 45 degree curve in my Thoracic region and a 42 degree curve in my Lumbar. I still had a year of growing left, so my docter decided to brace me. I had to wear my brace for 20 hours a day. I had been a faithful wearer, I wore it all 20 hous a day.
About a year went by and I had finished growing. By then my curve had gotten to 61 degrees and 54 degrees. They decided to do surgery. Do I regret running into my nurse that day? No. My curve would be way worse if i hadn't. I haven't had my surgery yet. But I will next month. I will update afterwards. |
