My parents worries didn't start until the day I had an x-ray for pneumonia and my mom noticed a slight curve in my spine! My mom wasn't to surprised because she and my grandma both had scoli. So about a year later we went to Dr.Lonstein [ my moms scoli Dr.] and said my curve was growing! He also said I should be coming back like once about every year to check up on my curve. One appointment in 2nd grade my doctor said I needed a brace! It wasn't bad at all getting the brace, but for a few nights it was very hard to sleep. So after that I came in every 6 months. It wasn't so bad wearing a brace because I kept telling myself that I wouldn't have to get surgery. Then this one visit in 5th grade Dr. Lonstein told me that I would have to get surgery as my curve had increased from 35 to 55 degrees in only 6 months!!! Once he got out of the room I started to just cry and cry and cry. Then when he got back in the room and he told us about the surgery. I felt way better. When we got home my dad went on-line and searched for everything he could find about the surgery and that is how we found this site. So we pretty much think the surgery will be in April of 2006. |
