Hello, I am a fourteen year old girl and I am going to tell you about my scoliosis.

Sometime last year in 07 I got called down to my nurses office in school and I did not know what it was for but when I found out I was kind of shocked to hear that my nurse was checking for scoliosis because I did not really know what it really was, I just knew it had to deal with my back.

After I came home from school I told my mom that I got called down to the nurses office so she could check for scoliosis and my mom knew already because my school nurse called home and told my mom that I should get an x~ray of my back, I was kind of scared because I did not know if it was really serious or not.

The day I went to get my x~ray I was rally scared because I haven't had never never had one before. So when I was at hospital I sat down for about 10 min or less before they called me and my mom could not be in the room with me while I took the x~ray and I had no idea of who these people were so I felt a little uneasy. They told me I had to hold my breath for a couple of seconds witch seemed like forever but wasn't ha ha . When I was done with taking the x~ray I was so happy. The doctors who were there told my mom that they would give the x~rays to my doctor and see what he thinks of them.

So about a couple of days later my doctor called and said that he wanted to see my back, when we were at the doctors office he called me in the room and told me to try to touch my toes witch I cant do, anyway he was starting to touch my spine and told my mom and I that he would recommend me to see a spinal surgeon and my mom and I were like for what surgery.I WAS SO SCARED. My doctor said'' hopefully not they just need to see if your curves progress or stay the same ''. My mom and I said thank you and than left. When my mom and I were home we told my dad what the doctor said and my dad was kind of shocked to hear that, so my mom looked around for a good surgeon or something like that but when she found one she called him up and told him what my doctor said so he said I can come in on that Saturday so we could just meet.

That following Saturday we were on our way to my surgeons I had major butterflies in my stomach because I did not know what it was going to be like , how it was going to go , what he had to say and tons more questions running through my mind all at once.A couple of min later we were there and we talked to one of the women at the desk and she just told us to take a seat and wait, A few moments later we got called in to a room and my surgeon was there and told us about himself and what he would like to have done and he said come back in a couple of days so we can take an x~ray and go from there. When we were done we shook hands and I ran out of the hospital and into the car ha ha . A couple of days later we went back to the hospital and I had to get an x~ray and wait in this room until my surgeon came in and told us what he saw on the x~ray ,he said that your curves are not that bad your about 27~29 in degrees and I am like o.k that means what now ,in my head.

He told me that I would need to wear an back brace for scoliosis and I was like OH MY GOSH. So I asked so many questions ,like how high will it go up, is it hard and a whole lot more. He told us that I would need to be molded for my brace and in a couple of days go to this guy and he will mold you for your brace. GREAT....not.

So I went to him in a couple of days and was so scared. When I was in the room getting fitted I felt so weird because it was a guy who was molding me for my brace.The next thing you know I have a boston back brace for scoliosis and when I was trying it on at the brace shop it was so tight I just wanted to cry and throw it out of the window. He said that I need to wear it for 2 hours that day and than more the next . When I was at home I put my brace on and it felt like I could not move my legs because it was so tight but I wanted to be strong about it so I started to exercise than after those 2 hours were up I took it off and jumped around and felt so free.

The next month I went back to my surgeons and took and x~ray and waited in the room for my surgeon again, he came in a few min later told me about the x~ray checked out my back and said see me in 3 months and than another 3 months and so on so fourth.

I just hate my brace sometimes but if it helps me out than count me in. hope you enjoyed reading my scoliosis story. lots of love
