Scoliosis Stories

MARLEY'S STORY
Submitted May 31, 2004

It all started when I was at the mall with my Mom. I was trying on bathing suits and I was showing one to my Mom. Well, I was turning around because she was buying it so she had to see it from every angle. Then when she saw it from behind she saw my back and thought something looked wrong.

She knew about scoliosis so she had me bend over. Well, she thought my back looked a little strange so since I had a doctor's appointment coming up soon she just told me that they would check it then. Well, I didn't know anything about scoliosis so I was like whatever.

Well, as it turned out I had scoliosis and when they told me I was a little upset but pretty much out of shock, even though it hadn't completely sunk in yet. So they requested me to my doctor and I went a few weeks later for x-rays.

Well, I got them done and as it turned out I had double curve scoliosis in the shape of a backwards S. My curves were pretty bad. 35* and 35*. So they requested me for a brace.

Well, a couple of weeks later I got it. Its really pretty too. It's a swirled blue and white. Well, I've had it for nine months now (almost ten) and I've got all the clothes, and little details worked out like what kind of under shirts to wear. Stuff like that.

No one at my school makes fun of it or anything like that. They all think its cool and are always like hitting my back or stomach, because I cant feel it.

So my curves aren't getting any worse. I think their down to 30 and 31, so it's getting better and hopefully I wont need surgery. I hope you have the same good luck with your brace as I have with mine.
