The next month in January my mom was going to take me swimming in the town pool when she took a look at my back and noticed that I had a large bump on my lower left back. A couple of days later I went into the doctors office and she told me that she thought I had scoliosis. My doctor had refered me to a scoliosis specialist in another town. There, I had an x-ray taken and I found out that I had a 40* lower curve and a 23* upper curve. That day I was taken to *the brace guy* where he had me put on a body sock and he wrapped plaster around my body. For the next two weeks I was really nervous about getting a back brace. Finally, the time had come. I had to were my back brace to school the next day. It was really uncomfortable. I hated wearing my brace but my mom forces me to. Now, two years later I am in my second brace. This one doesn't hurt so bad but I do get very hot in it. To make sure know one notices my back brace at school unless I bend over I wear a sweatshirt. My doctor says that I will not need surgery and I will be in my brace anywhere from another 9 months to 1 more year. Now I'm thirteen years old and even though my brace is a living nightmare it's making my back a lot better. Now I'm at 34* lower curve and a 19* upper curve. |
